October 15th, 2002 by SwordworlderDoes anybody have an opinion on proles developing their Psion abilities later in life (but also keeping with book three a reduced psi strength and ability). With ambition being quoted in many of the texts about the zhodani.. what would you say if a hard working zhodani prole with a PSi of 5 decieds to save his money and have after hours classes on psionic development.. he manages over the years to achieve a limited break through in telepathy ( the easy one and clairvoyence ) {example Telepath 3 and clairvoyant -4) is he still a prole since he wasn’t trained at youth? … does it create a class struggle issue with in cannon about the zhodani? I am just musing about it… besides I never agreed with the proles being completely non-psionic … Fresh fruit? Rotten produce?

I think it would be very rare for the zhodani to miss a talent when he/she is young.

In the JTAS article I paraphrase that proles with a psi strength of 9 or better are inducted into the Intendant class…? Hunh.. hey what happens to all the substandard 8,7,and the rest to the proles? just a question.

Back again in JTAS #9p.11 I quote;
So if you have a psionic potential of 8 or less back to slave pits? Which brings me back to the my point .. I grant the divsion of psionic potential between classes. But would you think that there is anything prohibiting the later development of psionics in the proles by zhodani society? I would tend to think it would be encouraged due to the fact that it shows a truely psionic embracing culture. If I am way off let me know.

You are right. Although I don’t think the proles will get paid education to increase their psi rating. But in CT Alien Module-4 it says that (p44);
I would guess that proles that have a lower rating will get some simple basic training to use “flicker” devices.

I don’t know if I am right or not but I am going to allow limited Psionic training for proles… if players want it… but they are going to have to pay for it in a Time and $ matrix… kinda like the after work clubs thing…like going to a gym…but a psionics gym.

I think Your idea about the psi-gym sounds really good. Now, how high can You levitate???

I don’t know about levitating right now, but night jumps with full kit I seem hit the ground very hard.
Back to the proles The Grups Alien races was very helpful, a different point of view though from the classical traveller, but I enjoyed the fleshing out a bit.
