When I started playing all I had was the first 3 LBBs so we had to make up our own setting. We started in the Spinward Marches because that was the map we had available. My group took turns every couple of months to switch referees and start an adventure from a different area of the map. We each had different favorite SciFi ideas and all of the cultures diverged from the Marches. It added to the fun of the adventure making all of the ideas merge together.

Good idea about the non-player races, I hadn't thought of that. I wasn't going to make the alien races humans with funny ridges on their heads, but I do see your point.

Thank-you for the link, I'll have to check it out.

Good Travels...

Being inspired by B5 (and making Your own setting) is probably a
good thing. (That was what You was supposed to do, before the
"canon" was thrown at You.) Then You could run political and/or
spy adventures at the futuristic equivalent of Singapore or any
other multicultural city. For some similar ideas, check out the
comic "Valerian et Laureline" by J-C. Mézières.
Here is a <a href="http://www.stacken.kth.se/~maxz/valerian/valerian.html" rel="nofollow">webpage about that comic</a>.

I wouldn't recommend that all races are anthropomorphic. That
would only lead to the alien with zippers type of game, and
give it too much of a trekkie feel. You can have some humanoid
aliens, that the players can play, (like vargr and aslan in the
canon setting) and then some strange ones that are not allowed
to play. Then the setting will be more varied, and probably more
realistic = better.

Good luck with Your game. Please tell us more later! :-)
