Aek Elakfough – Gvurrdon 0439

The biggest problem with this planet is that has TL-G and a population of zero. In the maps here at the Zhodani Base that uses data from Galactic, the population has been modified to reflect the situation a few years later. But in the original source (AM-3 Vargr) the UWP is:

0439 A000002-G     Lo nIn As   220Va  K8 V  M7 D

Okay, so we got 2 Vargrs running a class A starport at TL-G. That seems a bit unlikely… It might be that they have lots of robots running the starport and the TL-G production facilities. Where did all those TL-G robots come from?

Another idea is that the only thing they produce at their asteroid base is coffee, and that they once visited Darrian and bought an old coffee machine. When the Impie Scouts visited Aek Elakfough they noticed that the only thing produced was coffee from a TL-G coffee machine. So these scouts followed their scout protocol and noted that this was indeed a TL-G world… They also noted that the two Vargrs were engineers and could (if they wanted to) overhaul starships on their asteroid base. Voila, it must be a class A starport…

Another problem with TL-G for Vargrs are that on page 29 in AM3, the maximum TL for Vargr is F. But on the other hand, that is the same page that have a table for Aslan Morale.

Roger Malmstein has also tried to answer the questions about Aek Elakfough and has written a document about it.

  1. I tried to answer the question back in late 90ies or something. And today I am not very happy with the answer. For a small insignificant world in the Vargr extends at the borders of Zhodani to have a TL of 16 is just jaw-dropping.

A better solution could have been a strange Hiver outpost far from home selling advanced computer software specially designed to operate on lower tech computers.

As this software also got popular at wide spread in Gvurrdon it helped the sector withstand the initial viral attacks at the end of the Rebellion. As I don’t have the books available at the moment, I recall seeing a map of Gvurrdon where only two thirds of the sector affected by the virus.

I then based my work on Gvurrdon or the New Era on that information. however, when TNE finally arrived, the maps did show that Gvurrdon went under. I never really bought into that as I saw it more likely that both Imperial and Zhodani interests would use Gvurrdon as a buffer zone to stop the Virus. And they would equip and train certain Gvurrdon factions for the jobb.

  2. And in Mongoose Traveller the TL-G worlds has been altered to something else…
More realistic maybe, but it takes away some of the fun and excitement of finding something unusual and exciting in some backwater world of Gvurrdon.

  3. I also expect a rule change in the Mongoose Alien Module 4: Zhodani, which means that all Zhodani Sectors has to be redone. 😐

  4. I expect so too. Allthough I have little experience with the zhodani sectors.
I have pre-ordered the Zhodani book because i have given input on the Vargr names to the Vargr systems. So I expect to see my name inthat book =0)

  5. The credits in the current preview at their site is a bit confusing. Seems that they have copied and pasted the credits from rthe Darrian book, with some minor edits. 😐
