Traveller LIFTOFF RPG Crowdfunding

I really want a simple Traveller rule set with lots of pictures so that it would be easier to play Traveller with my son when he gets old enough. Traveller Liftoff may be exactly what I am looking for.

However it looks like this crowdfunding isn’t going to liftoff. 5 days to go and only €2,599 raised of the €100,000 goal. Was the goal too high? Are gamers tired of new Traveller rule sets or just of Traveller crowdfunding projects? Maybe gamers would have prefered if it was on Kickstarter instead of Indiegogo?

Just the rules (Beta-version) can be downloaded for free from 13Mann. I hope they give this another try. Maybe they could skip the box and only make a glossy book and find alternative ways to pay the artists (maybe based on sales). In a few years I will need this.

  1. Wow, they were asking for a lot of money, alot…for what is essentially a starter set. I am not surprised it did not fund.

  2. I’ve backed several high-quality RPG crowd-funded projects, and NONE of them were seeking anything close to 100,000 Euros. I just can’t figure what they needed that much money for.

  3. Problems with this: a) this is the first mention I’ve seen of this being crowd sourced, although I have heard that it was being created. b) the rules were not overwhelming better than the regular rules and they would have to be especially for the amount of money they are asking for.

  4. Not only did they ask for a ridiculous 100k Eur, they had stretch goals mapped out to 275k Eur. That’s… fresh. And by fresh I mean messed-up fraking greedy.

  5. Perhaps someone looked at the T5 Kickstart and thought it would go along similar lines? That is just too much money to be realistic and it puts people off.
