Ryuhleiea subsector and its spinward neighbor, Aokiylair, make up the front line of defense, often referred to as Khei, which translates to "frontier stronghold," against Vampire fleet invasions. Unlike the Denebian frontier, morale here is high. The Aslan who labor here feel that their work avenges the wrongs done to their clans by Virus. They also view their location as being prime real estate for what they perceive as an eventual migration back into the old Hierate.
Despite their efforts, Virus has been on their doorstep on several occasions. The Ahfatre - Aoki 5 parsec gap has been their best defense. Every world rimward along the Riftspan Route from Ahfatre has suffered from Viral attackers.
In their haste to get back into the Hierate, the Aslan have sometimes let caution slip through the cracks. Nowhere is this more evident than at the cemetary world of Iukheaw (1715). The AQS refuses to elaborate on how the incident occurred. They've only said that an infected piece of equipment was undergoing analysis at the ERF (Equipment Reclamation Facility) and it escaped containment. Fortunately, the outbreak was confined to Iukheaw. Unfortunately, it resulted in the deaths of 200,000+ Aslan.
Aufusyah (1716) is the site of the Salika Reservation. In 1110, their sublight generational starship stopped in the Ahfatre system to affect repairs to their fusion plant. First contact was made by a mixed Aslan and Human crew aboard an Aslan merchant vessel. They were able to determine that fixing the fusion plant was cost-prohibitive. In return for allegiance and scrapping the Salika starship (the Salika were allowed to keep whatever equipment they needed for their survival), the Aslan Heirate transported the Salika to Aufusyah so that they could build themselves a new home. The Salika have been exceptionally grateful to the Aslan for their assistance. Two later vessels were settled here as well. The reservation now holds over three quarters of a million Salika. Note: See TD19 for background on the Salika.
Instead of suffering a massive exodus, Aoki (1816) has witnessed a population explosion. Millions of Aslan, ranging from Hierate warriors seeking revenge to Ihatei looking to establish themselves, have poured in to Aoki to hold the line.
The inhabitants of Ahfatre (2219) eagerly await the day when they no longer have to worry about attacks from the heavens. Being the last step on the way to the Aslan frontline, Ahfatre has seen its share of Vampiral visitors. In recent years, as Aslan ships have begun to reclaim the Riftspan, the attacks have lessened. Working with their Droyne neighbors, the Ahfatre Aslan have rebuilt themselves up from TL 2 to their current TL of 5. It is also the last place that Aslan ships can get fresh air before crossing the khiy hroa, which translates as "region of vacuum death," 2 subsectors worth of dead worlds in Hrehkhtyei & Aoheiroiao.
Although initially wiped out, Iyakhoryeh (2419) has a submersible
facility which goes into "silent running" whenever a ship enters the
system. It serves as a rest area for System Defense Boats.
